Found in Japan (Akoya), China (Freshwater and cultured), Australia and Philippines (South Sea) and Tahiti (Tahitian). Known for purity, charity, integrity and loyalty. The mother-of-pearl gives the iridescence of colors on the surface known as Orient. There are many shapes such as round, near round, oval, drop, button, baroque (irregular), coin (flat), and keshi (rice grain).
